house in Hojo

The building is a one-story building with a gentle slope. There is an opening in the roof to take in the southern garden.

The front road has a slope with a difference in elevation, and the site is planned to take advantage of the difference.

Trees are planted in the open courtyard, making it a buffer zone with roads.

The roof opening creates a difference between the outside and the inside of the outside space.

Entrance: There is a courtyard in the front, which expands the space.

Entrance approach

The site is located in a newly built residential area. The front road is inclined, and there is a maximum level difference of 1.4m between the site and the road.
The plan is to make use of the level difference without having to set up a retaining wall to eliminate the steps.
The garden goes down a gentle slope towards the road. From the surrounding environment to the building, through the slope garden, it creates a continuity of the external space. The roof stretches along the slope of the slope and goes down.
The outside garden is surrounded by a perforated roof so that the garden is continuous with the room. The boundary between the outside and inside is blurred, and you can feel the continuous outside space from inside the room.
